Cincinnati Bengals superstar Ja’Marr Chase went down on a deep ball on Tuesday. Joe Burrow threw it. DJ Turner covered him. Chase landed awkwardly on his left knee and limped off.
Trainers checked him. He stayed on the field and joked with teammates. However, Chase never needed a cart.
After practice, he called it a hyperextension.
“It’s just a freak accident,” Chase said. “Stuff like this happens all the time. It’s football. Some things are out of my control, and that was one situation that I couldn’t control, but I can control now.”

Ja’Marr Chase Skips Wednesday After Knee Tweak

Chase did not practice on Wednesday. ESPN’s Ben Baby noted he wore no brace or wrap on the knee. That points to rest more than a structural problem.

He told reporters he tried to go back in Tuesday. The staff pulled him.
“Just a football play. Missed step, missed my footing, and just a little tweak, but I’m fine.”
Video of the landing spread fast. Slow-motion footage showed the awkward plant. He left practice early but stayed on the sideline the rest of the day.
Ja’Marr Chase Gets Extra Rest Before Buccaneers Opener

Zac Taylor already planned to sit starters on Friday at Philadelphia. Chase was unlikely to play that preseason finale anyway. Cincinnati opens the regular season Sept. 13 against Tampa Bay.
Chase has played 78 games across five seasons. He has 520 catches, 6,837 yards, and 54 touchdowns. Last year, he posted 125 receptions for 1,412 yards and eight scores.
The Bengals cannot afford a long absence. He remains one of the league’s best receivers. A hyperextension at this point of camp still creates a scare.
He turned to prayer first, then stood back up. The next real test comes when pads and live work resume. For now, the message from Chase stays simple. He feels good. He would play tomorrow if he had to.
