Previously, the innovative play-caller spent four seasons working as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Jim Harbaugh brought him to Los Angeles to inject creativity into the team’s struggling, plodding offense.

Unfortunately, things got off to a bad start this past Sunday.

New Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel endured a frustrating debut during Sunday’s disappointing 26-14 home opener.

Previously, expectations soared around how the innovative play-caller would revamp quarterback Justin Herbert’s high-flying passing offense. Instead, the heavily hyped unit largely sputtered and failed to sustain momentum against the Arizona Cardinals.

The offense completely stalled, managing only 268 total yards, with fumbles and three tough sacks that derailed any scoring chances. The Chargers’ highly anticipated rushing attack sputtered to a meager 3.8 yards per carry.

Mike McDaniel offered an honest assessment after his disappointing debut against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

McDaniel did not hold back when analyzing the unit’s lack of rhythm and execution errors. He noted that the group repeatedly hurt themselves through uncharacteristic penalties and poor overall execution.

Unfortunately, the only thing people could focus on was the many times McDaniel answered questions while adding “Um, Uh, Ughmm” throughout the presser.

During his presser, he emphasized that self-inflicted wounds entirely derailed the team’s offensive game plan. He stated that the team must quickly fix its communication errors before next week’s game.
