Newly released court documents detail several alarming signs of intoxication from Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen’s August arrest. A newly unsealed probable cause affidavit notes that Allen exhibited “extremely slurred speech and glossy eyes” when confronted by police officers.
The responding officers also detected a heavy “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” emanating directly from his breath.
In addition, the detailed filing reveals the veteran athlete appeared to have a noticeably dry mouth during questioning. Police reported that he “consistently licked his lips,” a physical behavior heavily consistent with the immediate ingestion of alcohol.
A subsequent breathalyzer test recorded Keenan Allen’s blood alcohol concentration at a staggering .224. This newly released chemical reading proves his level was nearly three times the state’s legal limit.
In the meantime, the formal charging documents reveal that the 34-year-old Pro Bowler failed multiple roadside sobriety tests. He is now facing two criminal misdemeanor counts in Indiana: one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to .15 or more, and one misdemeanor count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
