Patrick Mahomes’ comeback from a brutal injury has played a huge part in the Chiefs’ success in 2026.

Two weeks in, and the Kansas City Chiefs’ running game is rolling. Everything is clicking for the team on the field. For the first time in a couple of years, they have looked like legitimate contenders for a Super Bowl again.

But ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the 0-2 Miami Dolphins, the Chiefs reminded us they are still overly cautious about Mahomes.

On Wednesday’s report from the Chiefs, they placed Patrick Mahomes on the injured list. However, it was reported that the famed QB was a full participant during practice.

This has become a common practice for the team since Mahomes came back early from his injury in late 2025. He was listed on the injured list ahead of their season opener against the Denver Broncos.

Additionally, he was also listed in the same list in Week 2 before they took on the Indianapolis Colts.

This might all be a precaution for the Chiefs. Of course, they are still closely monitoring Mahomes’ day-to-day status after returning from a major injury.

While most athletes who suffered the same fate as Mahomes took at least a year to return to playing, he returned in just nine months. That’s a testament to his determination to get back on top.

Without its superstar QB, the Chiefs faltered late in their 2025 campaign. That’s why it’s important for them that Patrick Mahomes is 100 percent at all times. Aside from his name being included on the injured list, he has avoided any setbacks so far in 2026.

Despite the worries, the 31-year-old assured everybody, including the team’s owner, that he feels good after his return to the field. But if the team prefers to sit him against the Dolphins, they should remain the favorites in that contest.
