Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improved to 3-0 after beating the Dolphins last weekend. Kansas City pulled away late for a 24-10 road win.

Miami is still searching for its first victory this season, while a third-quarter sequence from that game has since taken on a life of its own.

Dolphins pass rusher Chop Robinson got called for roughing the passer after hitting Mahomes near the end zone. The hit came on an incomplete pass. “He got me. He got me pretty good,” Mahomes admitted after the game, acknowledging the contact even as the call drew scrutiny.

The penalty extended a Chiefs drive that ended in a field goal, pushing Kansas City’s lead to 17-10. Former cornerback Richard Sherman questioned the standard defenders are held to on plays like that, adding his voice to the chorus of critics.

Now a new video is fueling fresh accusations about that call. Former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel posted slow-motion footage to TikTok from his podcast, The Breakdown. It appeared to show an official reaching for his flag before Robinson had even finished the tackle.

“The flag is out before [Robinson] even finishes the act,” Daniel said.

The controversy spread quickly enough that Patrick Mahomes’ wife weighed in, too. Rather than address the penalty directly, Brittany Mahomes posted on Instagram, celebrating the traveling Chiefs fans instead. She’s leaned on that same move before whenever controversy swirls around her husband.

There’s another factor that complicates the “cheating” accusations here. Dolphins lineman Zach Sieler drew a separate holding penalty on that exact same play. That call alone would have handed Kansas City an automatic first down regardless of the roughing flag.

The criticism hasn’t let up because of that detail, but it does mean the disputed call didn’t single-handedly decide the sequence.

Robinson Still Drew A Fine Over The Hit

The NFL fined Robinson roughly $17,911 for the contact anyway, despite the ongoing debate over fairness.

One AI-generated parody video mocked the call by showing Robinson gently lowering Mahomes with a pillow instead. Miami reporter Omar Kelly didn’t hold back, either. He called the whole sequence frustrating, even as he admitted it wouldn’t have changed Miami’s result.

Kansas City’s perfect start means the scrutiny likely won’t fade anytime soon, especially with the Chiefs chasing another deep playoff run after missing out last season.
