Two NCAA stars have been named the NFL Scouting Combine’s biggest “losers.”
The Combine showcased some of the best prospects coming out of college ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. It wrapped up on Sunday afternoon following the latest exhibition of talent.
Yahoo Sports NFL Draft expert Frank Schwab put together a list of winners and losers amid the weekend’s action. He named Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields among the latter.
Fields did do that well in the 40-yard dash, and some believe he’s run himself out of the first round.
“The Notre Dame receiver ran a 4.61-second 40-yard dash, which isn’t great for a wideout. Fields was productive in college and his size (6-foot-4, 218 pounds) is a plus,” Schwab wrote. “Fields averaged 17.5 yards per catch last season, which shows he has big-play ability. But teams will question his speed after his 40 time.”
Fields recorded 36 catches for 630 receiving yards and five touchdowns for the Fighting Irish in 2025.
Who Else Made The NFL Combine’s “Losers” List?

Schwab also listed Miami’s Reuben Bain Jr. due to his measurements.
Bain was an excellent edge defender at Miami, has the love of football that teams covet and will go in the top few picks of the NFL Draft. But now he has to deal with endless questions about the length of his arms. Bain’s arms were measured at 30 7/8 inches, which is very short for an edge rusher.
Bain made 30 solo tackles, 9.5 sacks and caught an interception last season. However, his dimensions have raised questions about whether he could hold his own against pro offensive linemen.
