Just because the NFL trade deadline hit three months ago, it doesn’t mean ESPN’s Adam Schefter can’t stop breaking trades.

Adam Schefter is the top insider for breaking NFL news, including trades and free agent signings. The 2025 NFL trade deadline was on Nov. 4, and the 2026 new league year doesn’t begin until March 11.

Once in a while, Schefter might post about a blockbuster NBA trade on X/Twitter. But on Wednesday, he shocked his followers by breaking one of the biggest NHL blockbuster deals in recent memory.

Along with ESPN colleague Emily Kaplan, Adam Schefter reported that the Los Angeles Kings acquired All-Star forward Artemi Panarin from the New York Rangers for a conditional third-round pick and forward prospect Liam Greentree.

Fans had plenty of hilarious reactions to Schefter breaking the Panarin trade news:

“NHL SCHEFT BOMB?????” asked a fan.

“SCHEFTER HOCKEY NEWS?!?!” the FanDuel account asked.

“can’t believe schefter broke this news,” a user said.

“Schefter switching to hockey wasn’t on my bingo card,” wrote another.

“@AdamSchefter who is the best follow for nhl news?” a fan asked.

“Look at Schefter tweeting about the NHL. Welcome aboard my friend,” a user stated.

What can we say? There’s a first time for everything.

Adam Schefter Will Get Real Busy Again In March

Schefter is in the midst of one of his busiest weeks of the year, covering Super Bowl 60 between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots. But there won’t be too much time for rest when the 2025 NFL season concludes.

As noted above, the new league year begins on March 11. Schefter will be working around the clock to get the scoops on NFL trades, free agent signings and player cuts. After all, he has to get on the scoops before insiders from rival networks.

Schefter will also stay up to date on potential league and rule changes for 2026. But who knows? Maybe the Worldwide Leader in Sports will also ask him to break more NHL trades leading up to the March 6 deadline.
