AJ Brown-To-Kansas City Chiefs Trade Rumors Heat Up Following Unfortunate Rashee Rice Update

The Kansas City Chiefs suddenly have more concerns at wide receiver after another setback involving Rashee Rice. Rice is currently serving a 30-day jail sentence in Texas after authorities said he violated the terms of his parole by testing positive for THC. Because of the punishment, he will miss OTAs and mandatory minicamp. He also recently had a knee cleanup procedure and could be out for around two months.
Rice was already dealing with problems connected to his role in a multi-car crash in 2024. The NFL suspended him earlier in the 2025 season because of that incident. Earlier this year, he also faced assault charges after an alleged incident involving a photographer. The Chiefs still believe Rice has the talent to become a top receiver, but his repeated off-field issues continue to create problems for the team.
Now, NFL rumors have started connecting the Chiefs to a possible blockbuster trade for AJ Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles. The discussion picked up after Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer discussed the situation on his podcast this week.
Chiefs Could Revisit AJ Brown Interest

Breer explained that Kansas City entered the offseason with heavy trust in Rice. The team did not spend major draft capital or free agency money at receiver because coaches expected Rice to lead the group.
“Rashee Rice is someone that [the Chiefs] are relying on,” Breer said. “They didn’t spend a high draft pick on a receiver, they didn’t spend a lot of capital in the offseason on the position.”
Breer also questioned whether the Chiefs can continue to count on Rice long term.
“This is another brick in that wall,” Breer said. “Rashee Rice clearly looks like somebody that you have not been able to rely on.”
That uncertainty reopened speculation about Brown. Breer noted that Kansas City once held interest in the Eagles‘ star. The Chiefs previously owned extra first-round draft capital after the Trent McDuffie trade discussions tied to future picks, and league chatter connected them to Brown before.
Breer stopped short of predicting a deal. “I don’t think that happens,” he said. Still, he added that Kansas City must “look at all of these things going forward.”
Any move for Brown would likely cost a massive package. Reports already link the New England Patriots to the Eagles receiver, which could force Kansas City into a bidding war. Right now, the Chiefs face growing pressure to solve a receiver situation that suddenly looks far less stable.
