Alvin Kamara Is Done With The Saints As Latest Move Signals Blockbuster Trade Is Coming

Alvin Kamara was one of the best running backs in the NFL during his best days. He took over as the best player on the New Orleans Saints at times, surpassing the quarterback. After nine years, Kamara is past his prime, but he can still make an impact on the field.
However, the Saints are preparing for the future. After confirming that Tyler Shough was their quarterback last season, they started building around the Louisville product. They landed one of the best running backs available in free agency, Travis Etienne Jr., to lead their running game.
Etienne spent four seasons with the Jaguars before hitting free agency. He became one of the best players in his position, and looks like a good fit for the Saints. As positive as his arrival is, it can cause issues with Kamara.
Alvin Kamara Could Retire After Saints Signed Travis Etienne Jr.

As soon as the Travis Etienne Jr. news came to light, Alvin Kamara’s future with the Saints became a topic. He explained that he wouldn’t play for a different team amid trade rumors during the 2025 season. It seemed that he wouldn’t take a lesser role with the Saints, either.
Head coach Kellen Moore said that Etienne will be the RB1. When discussing Kamara’s future, he said the team won’t make any announcements before they go through “a process” with Kamara.
“We’d like to go through that process, certainly,” Moore said. “And so we feel, obviously, we know Alvin means a lot to us. Again, we are three days in this thing. We’ve signed Travis, and we’ll go through that process.”
He refused to answer when asked if Kamara mentioned retirement. In 126 games, the 30-year-old running back carried the ball 1,674 times for 7,250 yards and 61 touchdowns.
