Andrew Luck Reveals If He Would Come Out Of Retirement To Play For The Indianapolis Colts

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck revealed whether he was ever close to coming out of retirement like Philip Rivers.
A month before his 30th birthday, Andrew Luck shocked the NFL by announcing his retirement in August 2019. Luck was just in the middle of his prime, having won Comeback Player of the Year honors in 2018.
In another bizarre saga involving Colts quarterbacks, a 44-year-old Philip Rivers came out of retirement last week. Rivers, who had last played in January 2021, became the new starting QB after Daniel Jones’ season-ending injury.
During an interview with legendary radio host Jim Rome, Andrew Luck was asked if Indianapolis ever called him about coming out of retirement. Luck, now the GM of the Stanfod Cardinal football team, revealed that they had never done so.
“Zero, so I had zero chances to say no (to the Colts),” Luck told Rome.
When Rome asked Luck what his response would have been if Indianapolis reached out, the No. 1 pick of 2012 emphasized that he would have stuck to his retirement commitment.
“No thank you…I’m where I’m supposed to be,” Luck replied to Rome.

There’s your answer, Colts fans.
Indianapolis Colts Haven’t Been The Same Without Andrew Luck

Since Luck’s retirement in 2019, the Colts have only made the postseason once. That was in 2020, when a 39-year-old Philip Rivers led them to an 11-5 finish.
The Colts tried Jacoby Brissett, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, Anthony Richardson, Gardner Minshew II and Daniel Jones at quarterback following Luck’s retirement. Jones was the only one to pan out, but he’s a pending free agent who may not even return to Indianapolis.
Over his six NFL seasons, Andrew Luck completed 60.8 percent of pass attempts for 23,671 yards, 171 touchdowns and 83 interceptions, per Pro Football Reference. He was easily on a Hall of Fame trajectory before his stunning retirement.
