Raheem Morris got the bad end of the stick with the Atlanta Falcons.

On Sunday, the Falcons parted ways with both head coach Raheem Morris and general manager Terry Fontenot. The move came despite a Week 18 win over the New Orleans Saints. Atlanta was also on quite a winning streak to end the season. It still did not matter.

The decision comes after the Falcons finished the season with another 8-9 record under Morris. It marked their eighth consecutive losing season. Morris went 16-18 in two seasons with the franchise.

A head coach being fired is nothing new, but it was the way it was done. Raheem Morris had just finished a postgame press conference with the owner and his son looking on. He would go over and hug the owner of the Atlanta Falcons. Just a few hours later, the team would fire him.

Per ESPN’s Marc Raimondi, multiple Falcons players lobbied for Morris to return as head coach in 2026. In the end, it wasn’t enough for him to return.

Following an 8-9 season in 2024, there was hope the Falcons would take a step forward in 2025. They would not. Through the first five weeks of the season, Atlanta was 3-2. They still finished with the same record, having won four games in a row to end the year.

The Atlanta Falcons recently fired Head Coach Raheem Morris and General Manager Terry Fontenot.

Atlanta has been stuck in a long stretch of mediocrity, and they are ready to get out of it. The team hasn’t recovered since losing that 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl. Atlanta hasn’t made the postseason since 2017. They have been perfectly mediocre year after year.

The team does not have a first-round pick this season and will have to find hits in free agency. First up, they need a GM and head coach.
