Baker Mayfield Ends Former Head Coach Kevin Stefanski’s Career With Some Harsh Words Following His Hiring by the Falcons

Baker Mayfield can certainly hold a grudge.
Despite not playing for the franchise in the past five years, the Bucs quarterback needed to get something off his chest about his former coach. In 2022, Cleveland traded Mayfield to the Panthers for a conditional fifth-round pick in 2024. He had been seeking a trade after the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson from the Texans. As we saw, that did not work out for the Browns at all.
Mayfield, whom the Browns took No. 1 overall in 2018, said he felt “disrespected” by the franchise after the move. He competed with Sam Darnold for the starting quarterback position, ultimately winning the job. Unfortunately, he found himself being benched and falling out of favor. At one point, they had him on the scout team.
He showed signs as a quarterback for the Rams, which eventually propelled him to the Bucs. Fast forward to 2026, and the Browns have fired Kevin Stefanski. The Atlanta Falcons made a move to sign him as head coach for the 2026 NFL season.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is looking forward to seeing him twice a year.
Baker Mayfield Puts His Former Head Coach On Blast

The Atlanta Falcons made a move to bring on former Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski for the 2026 NFL season. Baker cannot wait to see him.
Mayfield responded to a post on X saying that Stefanski had a “dumpster fire at quarterback” during his time in Cleveland.
“Failed is quite the reach, pal,” Mayfield wrote. “Still waiting on a text/call from him after I got shipped off like a piece of garbage. Can’t wait to see you twice a year, Coach.”

It was Mayfield and Stefanski who ended Cleveland’s 18-year playoff drought in their first season together in 2020. The team would then earn its first playoff win since 1994 that year, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers.
During the 2021 season, they went 8-9 and missed the playoffs. He underwent surgery for the injury in Week 17 of that season. It would be his final season for the team.
Baker Mayfield will face off against Stefanski’s Falcons twice a year starting this fall.
