Bill Belichick has made it clear he is not planning on making a return to the NFL anytime soon. After parting ways with the New England Patriots following the 2024 season, the legendary coach joined the North Carolina Tar Heels in college football.

Belichick’s first season with the Tar Heels didn’t go as expected. They posted a 4-8 record, struggling to make strides with the eight-time Super Bowl champion. UNC continues to prepare for the 2026 season. On Monday, they brought in their first running back, Kaleb Jackson, who spent three seasons with the LSU Tigers.

Meanwhile, Belichick continues to draw attention from the NFL world.

In the aftermath of the Buffalo Bills’ firing of Sean McDermott, a fellow former NFL coach called for the AFC East team to bring in Bill Belichick. During Monday’s edition of ESPN’s “Get Up,” Rex Ryan named Belichick as a strong candidate to replace McDermott.

“I thought this could’ve happened three years ago,” Ryan said. “Everybody looked at me like I had three heads at a guy I thought they would move to, or try to make a move for, was actually Bill Belichick.”

He even mentioned the former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, who previously worked with Josh Allen in Buffalo, as Belichick’s potential offensive coordinator.

This is an intriguing option for the Bills, who lost to the Denver Broncos, 33-30, in overtime on Saturday. Allen committed five turnovers, ending his team’s dream of winning the Super Bowl when things appeared lined up for its success.
