Bill Belichick’s shocking Hall of Fame omission is still driving the football world crazy, and the fallout might actually force the Hall to change how it votes on future inductees.

Despite being one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, Belichick fell short under the Hall’s current selection process, a result that fans and analysts slammed as a massive mistake. According to ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio, the Hall of Fame’s board of directors could soon examine possible changes to the selection process. Florio reported,

“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Hall of Fame’s board of directors holds its annual meeting during enshrinement weekend – and it’s ‘likely’ that the board will consider potential changes to the current protocol at that time.”

Hall Faces Pressure To Review Voting System

The current process places candidates from the Coach Blue Ribbon Committee, Contributor Blue Ribbon Committee, and Seniors Blue Ribbon Committee into one combined pool. On top of that, a nominee needs a massive 80 percent approval from the 50-person committee (at least 40 votes) to actually get in.

This year’s stacked group featured Belichick, Patriots owner Robert Kraft, quarterback Ken Anderson, defensive end L.C. Greenwood, and running back Roger Craig. Out of that legendary lineup, Craig was the only one who made the cut.

Belichick getting left out instantly blew up into one of the biggest outrage stories of the year. Critics argued that a coach with his legendary resume shouldn’t even be up for debate. After all, he holds eight Super Bowl rings, more than anyone else in NFL history, and spent nearly two decades running the Patriots dynasty alongside Tom Brady.

Sure, some skeptics point out his mediocre record without Brady, but most agree his overall body of work speaks for itself. His titles, longevity, and impact on the game put him in a league of his own.

Now, the Hall of Fame is facing intense heat to fix the system so something like this never happens again. If the board decides to tweak the rules, Belichick’s shocking snub might be the ultimate wake-up call that fixes the process for good.
