Eight-time Super Bowl champion coach Bill Belichick opted to face new challenges in college football after parting ways with the New England Patriots following the 2024 NFL season. Belichick joined the North Carolina Tar Heels in a move followed by controversy, especially off the field.
After his first season with the Tar Heels, Belichick became a potential head-coaching candidate in the NFL. The Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants and Tennessee Titans are all looking for a new head coach.
His strong relationship with the New York Giants has been a factor in linking him with the NFC East team. Additionally, his prior relationship with Tom Brady, the Raiders’ minority owner, has played a role in the rumors linking him with the AFC West franchise.
It seems as though he would have options to return to the NFL, but Bill Belichick has already made up his mind.

Amid a busy offseason, which includes the controversial hiring of Bobby Petrino as offensive coordinator, Belichick has reportedly decided on his coaching future. Alex Raskin of the Daily Mail reported on Monday that Belichick is eager to return to Chapel Hill despite rumors of a potential NFL return.
“The Daily Mail was previously told that the 73-year-old is ‘committed’ to another year in Chapel Hill ‘to right the ship.’ In other words: He is not eyeing a return to the NFL,” Raskin wrote.
During his 29-year stint as an NFL head coach, Belichick has posted a 302-165 record. He has collected six Super Bowl titles and three Coach of the Year awards. He ranks second on the all-time winning list, but the focus is on the Tar Heels right now.
The program added Wisconsin transfer quarterback Billy Edwards over the weekend, which sends a strong message about Belichick’s future.
