Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has addressed his unfortunate season-ending ankle injury, four days ahead of the AFC Championship Game against the New England Patriots.

Shortly after leading his team to victory over the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game, the Broncos announced that Bo Nix suffered a broken bone in his right ankle and would miss the remainder of the season.

It was a terrible break for Nix, who suffered the injury on the second-to-last play of the Broncos’ overtime win. With Nix out for the year, the Broncos will turn to veteran backup and former Patriot Jarrett Stidham.

Nix broke his silence about the season-ending injury on Instagram. He offered a heartfelt message and expressed his “confidence” in Stidham:

“The last few days have been hard to put into words.

What started as one of the most exciting games I’ve ever been a part of ended with some of the most devastating football news I’ve ever received. This is not how I imagined my season would come to an end, but our season has been defined by overcoming adversity and responding to it.

I can’t express how much this team and organization mean to me and how much I believe in them. I couldn’t be more proud of our guys. I couldn’t be more confident in Jarrett. And I couldn’t be more excited for what’s next.

Thank you all for the kind words, love and support over the last few days. Thankful for my trainers, Beau, Vince and Dr. Waldrop for taking great care of me.

God never says oops, and he is always good. He has big plans for this team. We’re not finished, as a matter of fact we’re just getting started. We’re just going to keep climbing higher.

Go Broncos.”

Facing the NFL’s No. 1 pass defense, Nix completed 26 passes for 279 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. The second-year QB also led the Broncos with 29 rushing yards on 12 carries.

Broncos Can Still Win Without Bo Nix

Losing Nix is unquestionably a big blow to the Broncos’ championship dreams. But they are more than capable of winning the Super Bowl without their star QB.

Remember, Broncos head coach Sean Payton has a rich history of winning with backup quarterbacks. He went 5-0 with Teddy Bridgewater in the 2019 season, when New Orleans Saints legend Drew Brees went down with a finger injury.

Brees missed four games to injury in 2020. Utility man Taysom Hill went 3-1 in relief of the future Hall of Famer.

In 2021, Payton led the Saints to a 9-8 finish despite having to use three backup QBs after Jameis Winston’s season-ending injury. Though Trevor Siemian and Ian Book went a combined 0-5, Hill went 4-0. That included a shutout win over Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road.

With Payton’s coaching and arguably the league’s best defense, Denver can still ride Stidham to a Super Bowl.
