San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has starred in trade rumors for two years now. His relationship with the team only worsened since he suffered a season-ending injury after playing seven games in 2024.

Aiyuk had reportedly gone missing, with the 49ers failing to reach out to him. He wants to be released, but the 49ers are adamant about trading him. Amid the standoff, Aiyuk dropped a big hint about his next move.

49ers reporter David Lombardi noticed that the wide receiver only follows his wife, Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders on Instagram.

If he wants to join the Commanders, Aiyuk should wait until the Niners cut him. ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler reported on Sunday that Aiyuk is viewed around the league as “untradeable.”

“Brandon Aiyuk’s future is squarely in limbo right now,” Fowler said. “I’ve talked to two rival executives who believe that he’s simply untradeable right now. That it’s just gonna be hard to move on because of the knee issue—didn’t play all last year. He’s kind of ghosted the 49ers at times; they haven’t really had a lot of communication with him. And then you got the contract.”

Teams are 30 hours away from being able to utilize post-June-1 cap benefits via trades and cuts.

If the Niners cut him after June 1, they would save $20 million against the cap. Perhaps fans are living the final hours of Aiyuk as a Niners player.
