The Philadelphia Eagles will likely have plenty of questions to answer following the latest update on Jalen Hurts.
The quarterback has become the center of a serious health scare and is now out for the remainder of the season.
The Eagles initially ruled Hurts out of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers after doctors discovered a blood clot in his left calf. The team later placed him on injured reserve, guaranteeing he would miss at least four games.
Further medical evaluations have revealed a more complicated situation.
According to a new statement from Hurts’ representatives and the Eagles, specialists in London initially diagnosed him with superficial vein thrombosis. Additional testing and monitoring later identified deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning blood clots were also found in both lungs.
The organization insists that Hurts remains clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment will involve blood thinners, which prevent him from participating in contact activities for now, though he will stick around the team.
Jalen Hurts Faces A Lengthy Road Back To Football

Hurts’ representatives described his prognosis as very good and expressed confidence in a full recovery. They also expect him to avoid long-term effects, although he cannot resume contact football until he finishes treatment.
The diagnosis follows a worrying sequence of events surrounding Philadelphia’s trip to London. Hurts reportedly stayed awake for roughly 36 hours before facing the Jacksonville Jaguars after doctors warned him about sleeping following the initial blood clot diagnosis. He then threw for 220 yards and a touchdown in the 19-17 loss.

Hurts’ absence has already affected Philadelphia. The NFC East side lost 25-14 to the Panthers on Sunday. Backup Tanner McKee started in his place as the Eagles fell to 2-4.
It goes without saying that football now takes a back seat. Hurts’ health comes first, and his medical team will determine when it is safe for him to return.
