Caleb Williams Gets Called Out For “Tipping Plays” vs. Seahawks On MNF — 31 NFL Teams Need To See This

Caleb Williams had a strong night in the Chicago Bears’ Monday Night Football win.
The former USC quarterback connected on 24 of 34 throws for 247 yards and a touchdown as Chicago beat the Seattle Seahawks 34-17 and improved to 6-2. The game also made headlines before kickoff, when pregame fireworks went off near a helicopter.
On another note closer to the field, one analyst thinks Williams may have given something away in the fourth quarter. Dave Kluge took to X with claims that Williams appeared to tip his plays with his mouthguard.
“I hope someone on the Bears coaching staff sees this and tells Caleb Williams,” Kluge wrote. “He was tipping play calls late last night.”
Kluge said the Bears star wore the mouthguard normally on passing plays but let it dangle on handoffs. By his count, that happened on all but one fourth-quarter play.
“On some plays, I couldn’t tell,” he admitted.
Allbright And Other Users Weigh In On The Mouthguard Habit

Benjamin Allbright noted that he has seen a similar tell before.
“A former Broncos WR/returner used to do this. I pointed it out in preseason to someone on staff who didn’t believe it initially. Guy got waived and signed to another team PS two days later. Was still doing it with them,” Allbright wrote.
One user suggested that Bears head coach Ben Johnson planted the habit on purpose.
“Ben Johnson probably told him go do this so teams clue in on it so he can get a trick play out of it,” they wrote.

Another fan pointed to passing plays.
“Been plenty of pass plays where’s it’s dangling though.”
“I bet this is a season long intentional ploy by Ben and Caleb just to flip in during a playoff game’s 4th quarter,” someone else shared.
As to whether this was all planned or careless on Caleb’s part, we may never know. What we do know is that it did not cost Chicago.
