Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has seen his newest TV project end quickly. BET has canceled his show, 106 & Sports, after only eight episodes.

The network confirmed the news in a statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. BET said it will not make any more episodes. The show premiered on October 15, 2025, on BET+ and aired its final episode on December 3.

Newton hosted the show with Ashley Nicole Moss. The creators designed the program to bring back the feel of 106 & Park, which aired from 2000 to 2014 and built a strong fan base. This new version focused on sports instead of music and pop culture, but it did not attract a large audience.

BET canceled the show just a few days after Newton made controversial comments on his Funky Friday podcast. He said he does not believe he can have purely platonic friendships with women.

“I’m not about to be around no women platonically,” Newton told. “Because I’m not about to play them type of games. It may be self-control. If she fine, I’m not about to have her around playing that I don’t think that she’s attractive. I don’t have good-looking women that’s friend around me.”

Moss appeared uncomfortable and did not seem to agree with his point of view.

Fans reacted after the cancellation was announced. Many users on X questioned whether the show struggled because of weak content or poor promotion.

“Should’ve never been started. Btw ESPN, FOX, Podcast and other online media. No one was checking for that. I don’t even think Cam promoted it, I’ve only seen his podcast clips,” one user wrote.

Another user blamed the network’s strategy. “BET and other networks keep showing they are unwilling to adapt… majority of people these days are watching stuff on YouTube, social media and streaming services there’s no reason for a show only being on programmed TV.. Put it on every platform so it has the possibility to reach everyone… there’s no reason why BET isn’t streaming shows like this on Twitch, Kick, Tik Tok, Instagram, Twitter Where Ever an audience is…”

Others targeted Newton directly. “This is not 2011 or 2015, Cam Newton is irrelevant now,one person posted.

Before working in the media, Newton had a successful football career. He won the Heisman Trophy at Auburn University in 2010. In 2015, he was named NFL MVP and led the Carolina Panthers to the Super Bowl. He stepped away from football in 2021 and moved into media work the following year.

Newton continues to appear on sports programs and podcasts. ESPN sometimes invites him on air, though his appearances occasionally create controversy.

This recent cancellation shows that being famous is not always enough to succeed in the media world.
