Indianapolis Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon didn’t have the dramatic press conference that many fans had hoped for
A seven-game losing streak to close out the season wasn’t enough for Carlie Irsay-Gordon to make changes. In her end-of-season press conference, she announced that head coach Shane Steichen and GM Chris Ballard would return for 2026.
Daniel Jones’ career year ended when he tore his Achilles in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The desperate Colts brought a 44-year-old Philip Rivers out of his five-year retirement, but he wasn’t able to provide the miracles they needed.
Irsay-Gordon’s press conference went viral on Monday. The reason isn’t flattering. Fans were simply upset with her messages and defense of Steichen and Ballard.

“That Carlie Irsay press conference was the biggest disaster imaginable. All the talking points we knew she was going to spew but sounded even dumber than I thought she would. Colts fans, see you right back here next year. Scam artist team with no direction. They only care about winning enough to sell tickets. ZERO championship hope,” a fan said.

“After I heard Ballard was staying I bottomed out on hope. Then I listen to Carlie Gordon Irsay and somehow sank that much lower. We are doomed,” said another.

Irsay-Gordon acknowledged she was “pissed” over the disappointing end to the season. Per ESPN’s Benjamin Solak, the 2025 Colts became the first team in the Super Bowl to finish the season with a losing record after being six games over .500.
Indy started 8-2 before losing its final seven games. Obviously, there’s no telling how different the season would be if Jones were healthy.
Carlie Irsay-Gordon Is Taking A Giant Risk By Running It Back

The Colts are now 70-78-1 in Ballard’s nine years as a GM. They have two playoff appearances, one postseason win and zero AFC South division crowns. Their postseason drought has been extended to five seasons.
Steichen is now 25-26-0 as a head coach. The Colts have given him and Ballard more than enough opportunities to turn the organization around and get them into the playoffs. But alas, a historic second-half meltdown isn’t enough to warrant changes.
These two men haven’t shown the ability to build a long-term winner. But there’s enough progress in the eyes of Carlie Irsay-Gordon to keep the tandem together. Surely, this is their last chance to prove to her that they’re the right people for the job.
