Country singer Carrie Underwood faced loud boos during a recent live taping connected to American Idol. But she did not back down. Instead, she embraced the moment and later caught attention online with a bold leather outfit.

The reaction started after Underwood criticized contestant Mor’s song choice. The singer performed an original song. She told the singer that performing an original track did not make the best use of the band behind them.

“In a room like this, for you to bring an original song with that incredible band sitting behind you, twiddling their thumbs, I feel like it was a missed opportunity,” Underwood said.

The crowd reacted. Audience members booed her comments. Underwood anticipated the reaction and responded with a smile.

“You guys are gonna boo me. You’re gonna boo me,” she told the crowd, according to E! News. “It’s coming. Bring it on. I love it! Your boos are feeding me.”

She later doubled down on social media. Underwood wrote, “Boo me. I don’t care.”

Soon after the clip went viral, fans began talking about her outfit. This is not the first time people have been curious about her dress. Underwood wore a sleek leather look that got a lot of love as she handled the tense moment on stage.

Underwood joined the judging panel of American Idol in 2024. Many viewers also know her for her long-running connection with Sunday Night Football.

Many fans defended Carrie Underwood after clips of the moment spread online. Some viewers said the show needs more honest and tougher judging again.

“Honestly, the show needs a ‘Simon’ even more harsh than any of your critiques,” the fan commented. “I used to love the show, but because of the constant ‘love’ fest it’s become unwatchable. No knock on you.”

“Why are you being boo’d? For what it’s worth, I think you’re about the best role model for young women I can think of,” the fan wrote.

The network also voiced support for Underwood when it announced her role on the show. Executives praised her journey from contestant to superstar.

“She embodies the true spirit of ‘Idol’ as she herself is the definition of the Cinderella story,” the network said in a release. “Our future hopefuls will have the chance to receive advice from someone who has walked in their exact footsteps every step of the way. Carrie has always been a strong supporter of ‘Idol,’ and I’m thrilled for her to be reunited with our ‘Idol’ Family.”
