Tony Romo and Jim Nantz were one of the best broadcasting duos in the NFL not so long ago. Fans loved the combination that the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and a Hall of Fame announcer created, but things have changed in recent years.

Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports reported last week that CBS Sports isn’t happy with the narrative the media is pushing about Romo and Nantz. The company doesn’t plan to make changes to its No. 1 broadcasting partnership.

“If the 45-year-old Romo were in trouble, he’d be hearing it from the CBS suits in New York, starting with president David Berson. He’s not, say sources,” McCarthy reported.

“CBS’s top producer Jim Rikhoff and lead director Mike Arnold would be all over Romo and Nantz with suggestions. That’s not happening either, say sources.”

When the situation appeared to be controlled, a sports media insider cast doubt on how Romo and Nantz are viewed within the company.

Andrew Marchand Doesn’t Think Tony Romo, Jim Nantz Are Completely Safe

During Monday’s edition of his Marchand Sports Media podcast, Andrew Marchand of The Athletic was skeptical of the latest report. He said that CBS Sports executives must be well aware of Romo and Nantz’s issues.

“I have so much respect for CBS Sports president David Berson and his team. The producer, Jim Rikhoff, for them to say that they don’t know that there’s an issue with Nantz and Romo,” Marchand said. “You look at the history a few years back, Sean McManus (former CBS Sports chairman) went down to see Romo, tried to get him to improve. Since then, they had the awful Super Bowl call at the end of the game, where Romo talked too much at the end in the overtime win.”

Marchand added that Nantz has had his fair share of mistakes and Romo likes to predict plays a lot, which don’t always materialize. He ultimately questioned if CBS Sports would be confident sending the pair to a Super Bowl broadcast if they had it this year.

ESPN’s Chris Russo, however, believes they aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
