The Chicago Bears fan who went viral with his cheese-grating moment on Saturday night has shared the hilarious tale about how he was able to sneak the items into Soldier Field.

Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears pulled off the biggest comeback in franchise postseason history on Saturday. They stunned the archrival Green Bay Packers 31-27, erasing an 18-point halftime deficit to win their first playoff game in 15 years.

After the game, Caleb Williams and multiple Bears trolled the Packers by putting on the cheese grater hats. Williams then grated an actual block of cheese after the game, poking fun at the “Cheeseheads” nickname used for Packers fans.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Amazon Prime Video broadcast cut to a Chicago Bears fan grating cheese, much to the delight of fans around him:

The main question is: Just how did the fan manage to bring cheese and a grater past security into the stadium?

That fan, later identified as Brandon Martinez, shared the story in an interview with Mack Liederman of Block Club Chicago. Turns out, there wasn’t really any challenge to sneaking the grater and cheese past security:

“Martinez already had a quarter-wheel of cheese from Costco in his fridge because his two boys like parmesan on their pasta, he said.

On the way to the tailgate Saturday, Martinez picked up beers and a $8.99 cheese grater with a plastic cover from Jewel-Osco. Security at Soldier Field didn’t stop him.

A confident Martinez said he was loaded up on steaks, sushi and “Miller Lattes” as he strolled through metal detectors. Martinez was also strapped with four cheese chunks that his wife put in Ziploc bags and stuffed into his pockets.”

“Not even a beep,” Martinez told Liederman. “I didn’t even think anything of it.”

Bears head coach Ben Johnson backed up his trash talk of enjoying beating Matt LaFleur twice a year. Johnson will now try to get Chicago back to the NFC Championship Game for just the third time since 1989.

Chicago will host Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams (12-5) in the Divisional Round at 6:30 p.m. EST. The Rams are a slight favorite, and they finished one game up on Chicago (11-6) in the regular season standings.

But the Bears boast a 7-2 home record (including the playoffs), whereas the Rams are 6-4 on the road. Johnson also has some familiarity with Stafford, having spent two seasons together in Detroit (2019 and 2020).
