A Chicago Bears legend ended up in the middle of an unexpected scene after Sunday’s win at Soldier Field.

The Bears beat the New York Jets 23-12 and improved to 3-1 behind Kyle Monangai’s 146 yards and two touchdowns. Chicago also limited New York to seven first downs and 157 yards.

Additionally, the Bears closed the game with an 18-play drive that lasted more than nine minutes. Coach Ben Johnson had also kept his quarterback plans quiet before facing the Jets, which added intrigue to the afternoon.

But a different postgame story now centers on Otis Wilson, a starting linebacker on the 1985 Super Bowl champions. Witnesses told the Chicago Sun-Times that Wilson, 69, scuffled with a female security worker near the suite-level elevators.

Those witnesses work in different roles on the suite level near the press box. They say staff told Wilson he could not board an elevator reserved for media. Witnesses added that he would not listen and boarded the elevator anyway. Eventually, people led him off, and the doors closed before the scuffle escalated, according to those accounts.

A commotion reached the press box shortly after the game ended, the Sun-Times reported. The newspaper then saw Wilson on all fours shortly after the altercation ended. He later bent over at the waist while standing and appeared tired.

Several men and women in different uniforms surrounded him, and some carried hand-held radios. People eventually wheeled him onto an elevator in a chair and took him downstairs. The report described him as conscious and alert, with no visible injuries.

A softball-sized hole remained in the wall about a foot off the floor. The hole sits directly across from the elevator Wilson boarded. Multiple witnesses said that the initial scuffle created that hole.

Police Report No Calls Nearly Three Hours After Final Whistle

Nearly three hours after the game, the Chicago Police Department said it had received no calls for service. The department also had no finalized case reports on the incident. The Bears had not immediately responded to a request for comment. Because the account relies on witnesses, details might change as more information emerges.

The 1985 Bears went 15-1 before winning Super Bowl XX 46-10 over the New England Patriots. Wilson played linebacker for the team through 1987 and served as the main blitzer in their famed 46 defense. He now focuses on the Otis Wilson Charitable Association and released a Bears book in 2017.

Meanwhile, Chicago turns its attention to the Packers, who beat the Buccaneers 17-14 behind Jordan Love’s two touchdown passes. Receiver Rome Odunze and tight end Colston Loveland also posted big games against the Jets.
