Chiefs & Rams Make Blockbuster Trade Involving All-Pro Superstar & a 2026 First-Round Pick

The Kansas City Chiefs have made another big move. This time, they traded away one of their top defenders.
Kansas City agreed to send All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The main part of the deal is the Rams’ 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Schefter shared the news on X. “ESPN sources: the Chiefs and Rams are working on a blockbuster trade that would send All-Pro CB Trent McDuffie to Los Angeles for a package that would include the 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft,” Schefter wrote. “McDuffie would be expected to sign a long-term deal with the Rams.”

Along with the first-round pick, the Chiefs will also receive a 2026 fifth-round pick, a 2026 sixth-round pick, and a 2027 third-round pick.
McDuffie leaves Kansas City after three strong seasons. The Chiefs drafted him in 2022, and he quickly became their top cornerback. During his time there, he recorded 246 tackles, 34 pass breakups, eight forced fumbles, and three interceptions.
The Chiefs had to decide whether to give the 25-year-old a big new contract. Instead, they chose to collect draft picks. This is a strategy the team has used before, trade top players and rebuild with new talent from the draft.
Rams Push For Super Bowl run

The Rams clearly want to win right now. They nearly reached the Super Bowl last season but lost in the NFC Championship Game. In that game, Seahawks’ Sam Darnold completed 25 of 36 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns. And it was clearly evident that the Rams had trouble defending the pass that night.
Now, head coach Sean McVay adds a proven cornerback in McDuffie. McDuffie brings toughness and strong production. He gives the defense a reliable player on the outside.
The Rams also still own the No. 13 overall pick in this year’s draft. They got that pick from the Atlanta Falcons in an earlier trade. That gives Los Angeles more flexibility to strengthen its roster.
