Cleveland Browns Insider Offers Worrying Update On Shedeur Sanders’ Future With The Team

The Cleveland Browns closed another losing season on Sunday, despite ending 2025 on a winning note. And they may not be moving into next season with Shedeur Sanders, at least not as their starter.
Cleveland has already made one of the most significant decisions they had to make following the end of the regular season in firing Kevin Stefanski.
Sanders had one word to describe Stefanski and their relationship after Sunday’s win vs. the Cincinnati Bengals.
General Manager Andrew Berry has since discussed the quarterback’s first term in a Browns uniform. While he was full of praise for the former Colorado star, he refused to commit to him.
“I think we saw a lot of progress with Shedeur this year,” Berry said while discussing the decision on Stefanski on Monday, per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “I think that’s both mentally, physically, playing the position. He’s still very much a work in progress, like many rookie quarterbacks are.”
“But I think we saw some really good things in terms of his playmaking, his accuracy, his ability to extend with his feet,” he added. “And I think I’d also give him credit, as well as our offensive staff, for bringing him along in terms of his pocket management, his situational awareness and things of that nature.”
Shedeur Sanders Is Not Safe In Cleveland

Berry revealed that the Browns will take the quarterback position into consideration when scanning the market, making it clear that they aren’t set on Sanders remaining the starter.
“We’re going to do our work on the quarterback market,” he said. “It’s too important of a position and it’s something that has to be solidified. I can’t sit here and tell you today whether the solution for, or the starter in 2026 is internal or external.”
Berry noted that, “it’s something that we’re going to work through over the next several weeks. And quite honestly, the new head coach will also have a lot of input into that as well.”
Sanders went 3-4 in seven starts for Cleveland this season after replacing Dillon Gabriel following the latter’s head injury.
A fifth-round pick after a shocking slip in the 2025 NFL Draft, it’s been rumored that a crude joke about Tom Brady’s divorce was a factor.
Sanders was a 56.6 percent passer in his rookie campaign, tallying 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while taking 23 sacks.
