Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick has come over to help the family of Nolan Wells after the Mississippi teen’s death. According to attorney Ben Crump, Kaepernick helped pay for an independent autopsy outside of Mississippi because the family had concerns about the official investigation.

Crump shared the information during an appearance on “Good Morning America” alongside Wells’ parents, Christine and Elmore Wonsley. He said the family wanted answers they felt they could trust. As a result, they sent Wells’ body from Mississippi to Washington, D.C., where an expert with no ties to local law enforcement carried out a second autopsy.

Wells disappeared while traveling with friends to Horn Island. Authorities later found his body. Crump said the family continues to question the official account of what happened and believes several details still need clear answers.

Crump said the decision to seek another autopsy came from a lack of confidence in the investigation. He pointed to what he described as contradictions in the official narrative.

“There is an issue of trust here that is really important,” Crump said during the television interview.

Crump also questioned reports that Wells drowned. He noted that no witness has said they saw Wells drown. He argued that the unanswered questions made an independent review necessary.

The Wells family also says Nolan’s friends have given different versions of what happened that day. They believe there are still important gaps in the timeline. According to the family, Nolan usually stayed in touch with them and regularly checked in, but he never did that on the day he died. That has only added to their concerns.

The independent autopsy is part of the family’s effort to find out exactly what happened. Crump said they are simply looking for a full and transparent investigation.

Kaepernick has not spoken publicly about his reported financial support. However, Crump said Kaepernick helped the family pay for the second autopsy. For Wells’ parents, the examination represents another step in their search for answers about their son’s death.
