Former Dallas Cowboys star Jason Witten has taken a step forward in his coaching career.
Witten, an 11-time Pro Bowler, is joining the Oklahoma Sooners as a position coach as a tight ends coach, according to ON3.
The 43-year-old has vast experience, having played in the NFL for 17 years.
The former Tennessee standout spent the majority of his career with the Cowboys. He ended his career after a year with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Witten was a four-time All-Pro as a player. The former TE is widely regarded as one of the best players to ever suit up in his position. He holds the NFL’s single-game record for most receptions by a tight end in a single game with 18. He achieved the feat during a game against the New York Giants in 2012.
The Washington native is also the Cowboys’ all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards with 1,215 and 12,977, respectively. His 255 appearances for the team also rank him at No. 1.
He transitioned to coaching after retiring, taking over as head coach at Liberty Christian School in Texas. He leaves with a 46-15 record in five seasons, having gotten off to a worrying 2-8 start.
Jason Witten Set To Reunite With Former Teammate On Sooners Coaching Staff

Witten joins the Sooners as a replacement for Joe Finley and will reunite with former Dallas teammate DeMarco Murray.
Murray has been the program’s running backs coach since 2020.
Folks in football circles had always regarded Witten as a future coach. And he’s now set for his first foray into the college game.
Reports claimed he beat Alabama’s Bryan Ellis to the job. However, other sources indicate he was always the Sooners’ No. 1 option.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma is coming off an impressive 10-3 campaign. Their season ended in a College Football Playoff first-round exit to the Crimson Tide.
