The Dallas Cowboys’ season is officially over. They’ve already started making moves, with Matt Eberflus, one of their top coaches, already fired in a somewhat shocking move.

The Brian Schottenheimer era started with a 7-9-1 era. They have plenty of adjustments to make in the offseason, especially on defense, but they may not have enough available cap space to do it.

That’s why, with players like George Pickens and Javonte Williams entering free agency, they might have to prioritize. That will probably mean letting Williams go.

With that in mind, Bleacher Report analyst Alex Kay believes they might go for a cheaper replacement. In his latest column, he argued that they should target another former Denver Bronco and sign J.K. Dobbins:

“Dobbins will be well worth rolling the dice on for a cash-strapped club like the Dallas Cowboys. The team could be priced out of retaining Javonte Williams and will want to make up that lost production by coming to terms on a cheap, incentive-laden deal with Dobbins.”

Javonte Williams logged 1,201 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 252 carries. Dobbins, on the other hand, finished the year with 153 rushes for 772 yards and four scores.

J.K. Dobbins Isn’t A Solution For The Dallas Cowboys

While Dobbins is clearly a very talented and impactful running back, he might not be the type of player the Cowboys need right now.

As Kay also pointed out, he has a long and well-documented history of injuries. He’s missed time in every single year he’s been in the league:

“With Dobbins missing multiple games in all six of his NFL seasons—including all of the 2021 campaign and almost all of 2023—it’ll be tough for him to earn any sort of long-term deal from a club,” Kay wrote.

As much as Dobbins might be significantly cheaper than Williams, the Cowboys can probably do better. It’s not a matter of talent or impact but durability, and sometimes, availability is the best of abilities.

The Cowboys have an intriguing option in the building in Jaydon Blue. The rookie out of Texas was a healthy scratch in all but five games this season, but the potential is most definitely there.

Ultimately, GM Jerry Jones will have to prioritize what issues to address in free agency. But after watching Dobbins constantly get hurt, the Cowboys should probably steer clear of him.
