The Dallas Cowboys, like every offseason, have been mentioned in multiple trade or free agency rumors. The Lone Star has two big questions to address in 2026: George Pickens and Javonte Williams’ futures. While Pickens appears to be the favorite to stay beyond the 2025 season, Williams could be shown the exit door.

Dallas could make a blockbuster deal to land a 42-touchdown running back in the 2026 NFL draft. They could also reunite with another star running back coming off the best season of his career.

It seems that they have plenty of options to improve the offense, but the defense remains the biggest question mark for the NFC East team. They were one of the worst defenses in the NFL in 2025, which resulted in Matt Eberflus’ firing. With Anthony Parker as their new defensive coordinator, the Cowboys have options to strengthen their D.

CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards’ latest mock draft suggests that the Cowboys will do business with the Cleveland Browns to put their hands on Ohio State star Caleb Downs. Edwards suggests that the Cowboys move up to No. 6 while sending the No. 12 selection to the Browns. They could also get two future second-round selections.

“Jerry Jones is going to do what Jerry Jones wants,” Edwards wrote on Monday. “Patience is wearing thin, and the acquisition of 28-year-old Quinnen Williams, to go along with nearly 33-year-old quarterback Dak Prescott, suggests the team is looking for immediate results.

“Coming off a Super Bowl where defense ruled the roost and safety Nick Emmanwori was an impact performer, Caleb Downs’ value may be as high as ever. If the Cowboys need an impact player, their options are dwindling in a sparse class. Details of the trade will be discussed with Cleveland’s pick.”

Downs has been one of the best players in his position during his college tenure. He helped Ohio State win the 2024 national championship while also earning individual honors. He enters the draft as a two-time All-American and the 2025 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
