With Sunday serving as the deadline to trim rosters down to 53, there was much surprising news that happened in the NFL. Some were intriguing, while some were downright shocking. Of course, the Dallas Cowboys also have their own drama.

The Cowboys would want a better showing next season after an abysmal 2025 campaign. One of the many areas they need improvement is at cornerback. Their depth at that position is often considered one of their biggest weaknesses.

They need to make some movement in sorts, or a miracle to move the needle.

With their 53 roster set, the Cowboys surprisingly keep all five of their cornerbacks on Sunday.

“Cowboys keep five CBs with Ameer Speed and Caelen Carson currently on the 53. Would imagine the Cowboys will be looking for help either on wire or a vested vet,” according to a report from ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Some lamented that Carson is a noticeable drop from the Durant/Revel combo the team previously deployed. Ameer Speed’s presence is more tied to his special teams ability than to that of a true corner.

Moreover, with Darius Bland struggling to stay healthy, the Cowboys are expected to get some help via waivers or another avenue.

Carson And Speed Might Still Be In The Bubble

Neither Ameer Speed nor Caelen Carson is viewed as a long-term solution at CB. That’s the consensus among Cowboys beat writers.

Additionally, The Athletic’s Jon Machota wrote a lengthy piece about the reality that the Cowboys’ current crop of cornerbacks is facing after the final 53 was announced.

“Some of them could just be holding roster spots until Dallas makes some other moves in the next 24 hours. Cornerback depth isn’t great. It would not be a surprise to see another move at the position. The Cowboys did that last year after initial roster cuts, claiming cornerbacks Reddy Steward and Trikweze Bridges off waivers,” Machota reiterated.

Will the Cowboys find a suitable cornerback on the waiver wire, or will they trade for an established veteran? Maybe they’ll trade for a QB. It’s the Cowboys, so nobody truly knows. This will be an interesting week for Dallas.
