The Dallas Cowboys returned home for the first time since the tragic death of Marshawn Kneeland.

The Cowboys’ Monday night game vs. the Raiders marked the first contest since the devastating death of the 24-year-old Dallas defensive end.

“Just a great dude,” quarterback Dak Prescott previously said of Kneeland, per the Cowboys’ official website.

On Sunday, before the team played the Philadelphia Eagles, the team paid an emotional tribute to Kneeland with a touching video in their first home game following his death. There was barely a dry eye in the house as they honored the defensive end ahead of the game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Brian Schottenheimer wore a shirt with Kneeland’s face on it, while Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni became emotional as a touching tribute video played at AT&T Stadium.

The video began with the moment Marshawn Kneeland was drafted by the Cowboys in 2024 and featured highlights from his time with the franchise.

The Cowboys will wear a special helmet decal for the rest of the season to honor Kneeland. They had already started the “Marshawn Kneeland Memorial Fund” in part to help Kneeland’s girlfriend, Catalina, who is pregnant.

His passing just made his family even more saddened after his mother, Wendy, died in February 2024, two months before he was drafted into the NFL.

Kneeland was in the midst of his second season with the Cowboys when he tragically decided to take his own life.

In his second season, he recorded his first NFL sack and scored a touchdown. Days later, the news came down that he had committed suicide following a police chase.

Marshawn Kneeland’s girlfriend is Catalina, and she now has to live with this pain forever, as she tried her best to save him, as she had notified police earlier that night that she believed Kneeland had suicidal ideations and that he had a history of mental illness.

Hopefully, the Cowboys will stay in contact with her and ensure she receives the help she needs.
