Brian Flores’ success as the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator will make him highly sought-after if he wants to explore other opportunities.

After another tremendously disappointing season, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones figures to make some drastic changes. One easy call is to fire defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, whose unit fell apart entirely without Micah Parsons.

And according to a new report, the Cowboys may target the former Miami Dolphins head coach as a replacement for Eberflus. Flores’ three-year deal with the Vikings expires after this season.

More from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio:

“Dallas seems to be destined to fire defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, after a disastrous reunion year. (Never mind the fact that owner/G.M. Jerry Jones traded the defense’s best player 10 days before Week 1.) And the increasing chatter in league circles is that the Cowboys will be firmly in play for Flores.

The Vikings, we’re told, are keenly aware of the possibility. And while the Vikings should have exclusive rights to negotiate with Flores until his contract expires, we all know by now that tampering is as rampant in pro football as flopping mouthpieces that never seem to make their way into players’ mouths.”

The Vikings hired Flores as their defensive coordinator in 2023. They finished fifth in scoring defense last year and are ninth this season. That’s no small feat, considering how bad the Vikings’ quarterbacks have been this year.

Dallas’ defense, a top-10 unit under Dan Quinn for three consecutive years, is currently ranked 31st in scoring. So yes, a change is needed.

Flores is one of the few coaches under the Bill Belichick coaching tree to find success outside of New England. He led the Dolphins to two straight winning seasons in a time when the franchise was trying to tank.

A whiz with man-to-man coverage schemes and blitz packages, Flores’ career resume suggests he’d immediately turn the Dallas defense back into a top-10 group.
