Dave Portnoy has joined the debate about Bill Belichick missing the Hall of Fame on the first ballot. The Barstool Sports founder strongly criticized NFL legend Tony Dungy this week and called him a coward. Portnoy was upset because Dungy refused to say if he voted for Belichick.

Many fans were shocked when Belichick did not get selected right away. He won six Super Bowls as a head coach and two more as an assistant. Many people believe he is the greatest coach in NFL history.

The voting process is private, and only 50 people decide who gets inducted. After the news broke, fans wanted to know which voters did not choose Belichick. Dungy, who won a Super Bowl as a coach and now works as an NBC Sports analyst, is one of the voters.

Reporters spoke with Dungy at Super Bowl radio row and pressed him for answers. Dungy refused to reveal his vote. He also pushed back on the idea that Belichick already missed out.

“First of all, we don’t know that they didn’t get inducted into the Hall of Fame,” Dungy told reporters.

“I am a voter, I have not heard who’s in and who’s out,” he added. “So I’m not going to make a comment on it and speculate. We’ll find out, I think on Thursday, who’s in and who’s out.”

Reporters then asked Dungy directly if he voted for Belichick or for former Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Dungy again declined to answer.

That answer set Portnoy off.

Portnoy took to social media and attacked the former Colts coach in blunt terms. He branded Dungy a “COWARD” on his personal page and accused him of hiding behind the secret process.

Portnoy grew up in Massachusetts and remains a loud and loyal Patriots fan. He has never hidden his support for Belichick or his frustration with critics of the team. The Hall of Fame snub clearly struck a nerve.

Not everyone liked Portnoy’s approach. Many users fired back at him online and defended Dungy.

“C’mon man!! Tony Dungy is and has always been a class act,” one commenter wrote on X. “If he doesn’t wanna answer the question it’s his choice. No need to insult the guy. Be better bro!!!!”

Another user replied with a sharper message. “He’s definitely got more character and integrity than you ever will.”

A third critic mocked Portnoy and said, “lol you love calling people out on twitter. Keyboard tough guy.”

The Hall of Fame will announce the official class later this week. Until then, the debate will keep raging. Portnoy will keep talking. And Dungy will keep his vote to himself.
