Deshaun Watson appears set to start at quarterback for the Cleveland Browns this fall. After dealing with years of injuries and off-field controversies, Watson finally looks healthy as Cleveland becomes ready for the 2026 NFL season.

But his return could bring a tough reception from Browns fans, and Watson doesn’t seem bothered by it. When reporters asked him on Wednesday how he expects Browns fans to react when he takes the field, he kept it as blunt as possible:

“I don’t care,” Watson said.

His three-word answer blew up online. With plenty of Browns fans already fed up after a frustrating few seasons, Watson’s response only heightened the tension just weeks ahead of the start.

Fans responded strongly after Watson dismissed the question about their reaction.

“Has an NFL team ever had to actively guard against its fans booing its Week 1 starter?” one fan wrote.

Another fan asked, “lol HOW DO YOU GUYS CHEER FOR THIS LOSER.”

Some fans took a different view. One supporter said, “Rather him say this than say something that’ll just make the situation worse than it already is.”

Others remained critical.

One fan pointed to Watson’s massive contract, saying, “He has 230 million reasons to not care.”

Another questioned his commitment to Cleveland. “Why would he care? He only came here because the Browns wrote him a blank check to play 1 full season in 5yrs,” the fan wrote.

The Browns traded for Watson before the 2022 season, but a constant wave of injuries has kept him off the field for most of his time in Cleveland.

Now, with Watson finally looking healthy and ready to lead the offense again, the team has some reason to be hopeful.

Still, the tension between him and the fans isn’t going away anytime soon. For Cleveland to have any shot at success, they desperately need Watson to deliver his best, even if he’s hearing boos from his own home crowd.
