Dez Bryant Has Blunt Advice For Tony Romo After CBS Stunner

Former Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant defended Tony Romo after CBS placed the former quarterback on leave following his recent arrest for suspected drunk driving.

The decision resulted in a lot of talk across the league. CBS announced Friday that former NFL star JJ Watt will take over Romo’s spot on the network’s main broadcast team. Some fans liked the change and called Watt a good upgrade in the booth.

Romo’s leave came a little more than a week after authorities arrested him in Wisconsin. According to a report, “A deputy discovered the item when they were taking inventory of Romo’s car as it was being towed, according to the citation. The document stated Romo is facing a $267 fine for the alleged ‘possess open intoxicants in MV-driver’ offense.”

Bryant, however, believes many people have gone too far with the criticism.

Bryant Encourages Romo To Build His Own Path

Bryant shared his thoughts on X and urged people to stop judging Romo over a single mistake. He also suggested that Romo should move beyond CBS and focus on creating something of his own.

“Lay off my QB. As smart as Romo is and as great as he is as an analyst ..the knowledge he rarely shows the world is on another level,” Bryant wrote.

He continued, “Romo should locks in..create and build his own thing and run circles around CBS.. 9 Just know..one decision doesn’t define the journey.”

Bryant spent much of his career catching passes from Romo in Dallas. Their connection helped the Cowboys build one of the league’s most productive offenses during that era.

Questions now surround Romo’s future with CBS. The Daily Mail reported that Romo planned to keep a low profile after the arrest. An unnamed source told the outlet, “Thankfully, Tony didn’t hurt himself or anyone else, and most importantly, no lives were lost. He knows he made a terrible decision and is well aware of it and he knows he disappointed not only himself, but those he works with and family.”

The source also said Romo canceled a scheduled appearance at a golf tournament and planned to focus on preparing for the upcoming season.

Despite the doubt, Romo still has huge financial reasons to come back. He reportedly has $72 million left on his CBS contract. For now, CBS will move ahead with Watt in the top analyst spot while Romo steps out.
