Diego Pavia came to the Senior Bowl with plenty of hype. He left with everyone talking for a very different reason.

When official measurements were released, they surprised a lot of people. Pavia had been listed at 6 feet tall by several outlets. But at the Senior Bowl, scouts measured him at just under  5’9 7/8”  and 198 pounds.

And then comparisons to Bryce Young followed right away. Young faced similar scrutiny before the 2023 NFL Draft. Size matters at quarterback in the NFL. Teams rarely invest in starters under 6-foot-1.

Moreover, the timing is crazy. The 2026 quarterback class already lacks depth. That depth took another hit when Dante Moore chose to stay at Oregon. Pavia now faces tougher questions from scouts who value measurables.

Senior Bowl week started Monday as players reported to Mobile. One of their first stops involved official measurements. NFL scouts trust these numbers. College programs often inflate them.

Pavia became the biggest talking point of the process. Social media quickly filled with funny comments about his height. Fans questioned how a listed 6-foot quarterback could have lost more than 2 inches.

“Please explain, @VandyFootball. Did he shrink since arriving on campus?” one fan commented.

“Athletes downsize during the off-season. Thought we all knnew that!” one fan said.

“Must have been squatting too much and shrunk a bit. Happens to the best of us,” one post joked.

“Is that with or without cleats?” another came in.

Others aimed frustration at Vanderbilt’s roster listings.

Even with all the talk about his size, Pavia’s college career still speaks for itself. He led Vanderbilt to a 10-3 season, the best record in school history. He also became a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Pavia went to New York in December, finished second in the Heisman voting, behind Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, and was frustrated a lot. He officially declared for the NFL Draft on January 14.

The Senior Bowl still gives him a big opportunity. Practices began Tuesday, January 27, and the game will air Saturday on NFL Network with a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff.

Now, scouts are looking past the jokes online. They want to see his arm strength, decision-making, and leadership. His height is on the record and won’t change, but his play can still shape his future.
