Daniel Adongo went from playing rugby to playing linebacker in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts. These days, his life is much different.

The former Indianapolis Colts linebacker has spent the past several months in a prison cell. That is due to his detention by ICE, according to a report by The Indianapolis Star. The rugby star in Africa came to the United States to play in the NFL, and he achieved that goal.

Unfortunately, he is currently being held at the Miami Correctional Facility in Bunker Hill, Indiana, according to the report.

Daniel Adongo appeared in five games over three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, from 2013 to 2015. He did not have a long or notable career, but he was talented enough to reach the league.

“I think you’re gonna be a Hoosier and a Colt for a long time,” then-Colts punter Pat McAfee told Adongo during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show in 2013.

According to Spotrac, his earnings totaled $694,694, with base salary payments in 2013, 2014, and 2015. That is still a ton of money to live the life that you desire. According to The Indianapolis Star, he has been unable to do so since he has battled mental illness for more than a decade.

His issues reportedly began when his football career ended in 2015, and nothing has gone right for Daniel Adongo ever since. The publication stated Adongo has had arrests, psychiatric hospitalizations, and mental health challenges over the years. His family and social workers believe his mental health issues stem from his NFL career.

The Indianapolis Star reached out to Adongo’s mother, but she declined to speak. Neither the Colts nor ICE wanted to comment on Daniel Adongo.

President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown has often touted detention centers as a place for the worst of the worst criminals. It also has undocumented immigrants with little to no criminal history. Adongo has only a Class A misdemeanor conviction from six years ago.

It is currently unknown how long he will remain in custody.
