Donald Trump offered a small hint this week about which team he may support in the Super Bowl. He also showed that his past issue with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft may no longer be a big issue between them.

The scenario came at a high-profile movie premiere in Washington, DC, where Trump and Kraft sat side by side in the presidential box at the Kennedy Center. The event marked the debut of Melania, a new Amazon documentary about First Lady Melania Trump.

Their appearance together caught attention because Kraft had said he stopped speaking with Trump after the January 6 riots in 2021. But on Thursday night, the two looked relaxed, talked with each other, and seemed friendly as cameras recorded them.

The overall environment is a bit different. Kraft’s Patriots are set to play the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX on February 8 in Santa Clara, California. Trump did not make an official prediction, but earlier comments suggested which way he is leaning.

“Bob Kraft is a friend of mine,” Trump said Tuesday. “I’ve watched that team, and you gotta hand it to him. He had the great team and now he’s got the great team again.”

Trump made those comments just days before he and Kraft appeared together at the premiere. Their seating arrangement suggested that both men wanted to show unity rather than tension.

Kraft acknowledged last year that their relationship once fractured badly. Speaking in 2024, Kraft recalled their early friendship. “Donald Trump became a social friend in the early ’90s, when I was going down to Florida. And then when my wife…. died 13 years ago, he was one of four or five people who reached out to me and was really, really nice,” he said.

Kraft admitted he donated to Trump’s inauguration after the 2016 election. He later expressed shock at Trump’s rise. “It was like having someone who was a drunk fraternity brother become president of the United States,” he said.

Kraft drew a firm line after January 6. “I was very upset with what happened January 6,” he said. “And I haven’t talked to [Trump] since then.”

Thursday night showed a different picture. Robert Kraft attended the big premiere with Donald and Melania Trump. The event was attended by many famous guests, including athletes, influencers, pop stars, and political leaders. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Health Secretary RFK Jr., and House Speaker Mike Johnson were also there.

Melania Trump walked the red carpet wearing a black dress and stilettos. Trump wore a navy blue suit. The documentary focuses on Melania’s life during the 20 days leading up to Trump’s January 2025 inauguration.

Industry reports say Amazon paid $40 million for the film. Melania described it in simple terms, telling reporters, “Well, it was my life.”

With Super Bowl week getting closer, Trump still has not officially picked a winner. But his kind words for Kraft and their public reunion are sending a clear signal.
