Ashton Jeanty should’ve kept his comments to himself.

Jeanty was selected 6th overall in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders. So far, his career has been quite underwhelming in his second season.

The Las Vegas Raiders running back is now generating backlash over what he said off the field. Now, he has given an opponent bulletin board material before a Week 8 matchup. That is something that Rex Ryan couldn’t let go without a response.

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty sparked controversy ahead of the Week 8 matchup against the New York Jets. He claimed the Jets’ defense has “a couple guys out there that don’t really want to tackle.”

Rex Ryan didn’t take kindly to those comments.

During “Coach’s Flicker” on ESPN, he blasted the young running back for his words. “First off, that would never be said about one of my teams, period,” Ryan stated.

Alright, because there would be consequences to that, I’m telling you. No. 1, this is what I’m going to tell the kid, and again, I’m going to say this on NFL Sunday Countdown. I am going to go up to the kid before the game, and I’m going to make sure to tell him that we are not intentionally going to hurt you. We are not going to intentionally hurt you. We heard what you said, but the reason we are not is because you stink anyway. Alright, you’re soft as cotton,” Ryan said.

“Quite honestly, 3.1 a carry; you haven’t done jack in this league. We want your [expletive] in there. Alright, trust me, you help us; the backup is a hell of a lot better than you. So we want you in there. I want you to understand, son: see you later, but we’re going to annihilate this kid. We used to say put Riddell’s on him because that was the name of the helmet. We’re going to slap some damn Riddells on this kid on every down,” Ryan continued.

Through 7 games, Jeanty has 106 carries for 328 yards fr a measly 3.1 yards per carry. Consequently, he also has 1 rushing touchdown, along with 34 receptions for 312 yards and 3 receiving touchdowns.

His workload and efficiency have drawn increased scrutiny during the Raiders’ offensive struggles. You cannot be bad at your job and call out others for their job. Jeanty will need to have a great game in order to prove what he said was true about the Jets.

Both the Raiders and Jets are coming into Week 8 with below .500 records. They are on a collective 6-six game losing streak and are third in both of their divisions.
