Social media is destroying the Pittsburgh Steelers over their birthday wish for former head coach Mike Tomlin.
After the Steelers fell to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round, Mike Tomlin announced his resignation from the organization after 19 seasons. Before the game, there was speculation that Pittsburgh would possibly fire Tomlin.
Former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy was named Tomlin’s successor. Now, the Steelers are waiting to see whether Aaron Rodgers will return for a second season and reunite with McCarthy.
In an X/Twitter post sent on Sunday morning, the Steelers wished their former head coach a happy birthday:

Fans ripped the Steelers’ social media activity, joking that the admin team forgot to remove a “scheduled” post:

The 54-year-old Tomlin went 193-114-2 during his tenure with the Steelers, per Pro Football Reference.
Mike Tomlin Should Be Highly Sought-After By Other Teams In 2027

Tomlin chose to take a year off from coaching, and understandably so. The future Hall of Famer knows that other teams will be after him next year, so he didn’t have to rush into a decision on his future after leaving Pittsburgh.
Tomlin is one of two early marquee names to follow in next year’s HC hiring cycle, along with former Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott. The Bills surprisingly fired McDermott after their playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.
