Jeff Herrod’s fingers are a constant reminder of what an NFL career can do to you.
The Mississippi alum was selected late in the 1988 NFL draft by the Colts with the 243rd overall pick in round nine. Not as well-known as others, he was an anchor on Indy’s defense at the time. His most notable time came with the franchise from 1989 to 1995.
During those times, he racked up 1,011 tackles, 13.5 sacks, four interceptions, and six forced fumbles. Following his time in Indy, he played one year with the Philadelphia Eagles before returning to Indy to conclude his excellent tenure in 1998.
Jeff Herrod Was Left With Disfigured Fingers

Having mangled fingers comes with the territory of playing professional football. You never know what will happen on each play during multiple games played every year.
His time in the league was glorious, but Jeff Herrod certainly paid the price for it. On Twitter, his fingers are going viral, and not for a good reason.
One picture of his ten fingers showed that a few of them weren’t pointing the right way.
“An NFL player’s fingers after playing for 14 (Actually played 11) seasons,” the post said.

His fingers are a constant reminder of the toll an 11-year career as an NFL linebacker can have on the body.
Altogether, Herrod had 1,156 tackles, 14.5 sacks, five picks, and a defensive score off an interception. It’s unfortunate that he isn’t in the Colts’ Ring of Honor. Herrod, who led the Indianapolis Colts in tackles for seven seasons, was one of eight inducted into the State of Alabama Sports Hall of Fame. He was honored in a ceremony in his hometown of Birmingham.
Herrod became nationally known at Ole Miss. He finished with 528 career tackles, ranking first in school annals and second in SEC history.
