Fans Think They’ve Uncovered The Interview That Officially Ended Cam Newton’s Career At ESPN [VIDEO]

Cam Newton’s departure from ESPN sparked plenty of speculation, and one resurfaced interview is now being floated as the reason.
Shortly after reports confirmed ESPN cut ties with the former NFL MVP, Front Office Sports’ Ryan Glasspiegel shared a clip from Newton’s appearance on Sarah Fontenot’s ‘It’s Giving’ podcast. He implied that the interview marked the moment ESPN decided to move on.
“When this video came out, it made me wonder in my head how much longer he would last at ESPN,” Glasspiegel wrote.
The clip centered on Newton, a father of nine, discussing dating and relationships with women who have multiple children.
“I just think that the reality of that answer is that women’s value gets lowered the more children that they have,” he said. “I was having this conversation with one of the mothers of my children and she’s still fine. Like, I was telling her, ‘The guy that you’re dating or will date, if he ain’t willing to love on these five children that you have, he ain’t the guy for you.’
“Because when I came into your life, I was willing to accept you and whatever you had and there’s guys that’s out there that’s going to say, ‘Them ain’t my kids. I want you.’ Well, that ain’t how that works. But that’s not to say you can’t find nobody. I’m pretty sure she has somebody.”
Cam Newton Joins Growing List Of ESPN Releases
The interview drew criticism when it first circulated, and folks are now linking it to Tuesday’s layoffs.
ESPN tied the layoffs largely to its integration of NFL Network following Disney’s acquisition earlier this year. Chairman Jimmy Pitaro told employees the company restructured departments to eliminate overlap while positioning the network for the future.
Newton joins a growing list of on-air personalities who lost their jobs. Ryan Clark, Karl Ravech, Tom Pelissero, David Lloyd, Stephania Bell and Charles Davis also departed during the latest round of cuts.
The resurfaced podcast clip drew renewed attention after Newton’s departure, as Glasspiegel linked its timing to ESPN’s decision. Neither ESPN nor Newton has indicated that the interview factored into the layoff.
