The Arizona Cardinals parted ways with head coach Jonathan Gannon on Monday, firing him after two seasons in charge.

Gannon’s time with the organization is over, and he leaves with a 15-36 record following a 3-14 finish in 2025.

The team announced the coach’s departure via their official website, citing unmet expectations.

They said, “Expectations were high for the Cardinals in 2025, but they were not met, and ultimately that cost Jonathan Gannon his job as head coach.”

Now, given a clip from his first meeting with the team, it appears that the relationship was doomed from the start.

A video has surfaced on social media following Gannon’s firing, showing him delivering one of the least-inspiring team speeches you’ll ever see.

Gannon first asked his players who drove, then followed up with the question, “Who took the bus?”

The questions didn’t stir up any of the players.

“Did you have fire in your gut?” he continued, rather dryly.

“Did you?” He pressed. “We’re here for a reason, don’t get that twisted. Okay?

“We’re here for a reason: to win games. So if you didn’t have that fire in your gut, you’d better light the fire pretty fast.”

You can see the interaction right below:

We’re yet to see this fire, but Gannon has been fired.

Gannon’s arrival in Arizona was mired in controversy.

He had been the defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, and the team discovered that the Cardinals had courted him before they went to the Super Bowl in 2023. He was hired two days after they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in that game.

The Eagles were not at all pleased, plus the timing of the contact amounted to tampering.

The teams swapped third-round picks for the 2023 NFL Draft as punishment.

NFL teams have been reminded of the strict hiring rules in place since Gannon’s firing on Monday.

As for the Eagles, they’ve since returned to the Super Bowl, winning it in 2025 with Vic Fangio as their DC. They’re scheduled to play the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the playoffs.
