Former NFL player Barry Wilburn tragically died in a house fire this weekend.
Wilburn, a Super Bowl champion, is best remembered for his time with the Washington Redskins. He played for a few other teams.
According to Action News 5, authorities found his corpse at a burnt house in Memphis, Tennessee, on Friday morning.
He was only 62.
“Family and friends are mourning the loss of former NFL player and Super Bowl champion Barry Wilburn. Family confirms he was the victim of a house fire in Orange Mound early Friday morning,” the outlet reported.
They added:
“The Memphis Fire Department responded to a reported residential structure fire on Douglass Avenue in Orange Mound at around 2am Friday morning. They found an unresponsive victim in the rear hallway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A representative for the family has confirmed that Wilburn is the victim of the fire. MFD have yet to confirm the victim’s identity.”
Barry Wilburn Led The NFL In Interceptions En Route To Super Bowl Triumph

Barry Wilburn was an eighth-round pick by the Redskins in 1985 after playing his college football at Ole Miss. He remained with the team until 1989, helping them win the Super Bowl in 1987.
He was a First-Team All-Pro and the NFL’s leader in interceptions that season.
Wilburn played for the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. He also spent time in the CFL.
