Former Indianapolis Colts running back Randy McMillan, who spent his six-year career with the organization, has passed away.

The Colts announced that Randy McMillan died at the age of 67 on Wednesday. The cause of death was not revealed.

McMillan attended Hartford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland, before joining the Pittsburgh Panthers in 1979. He earned First-team All-East honors in 1980 after rushing for 633 yards and nine touchdowns.

Pittsburgh finished 11-1 that year and went on to defeat South Carolina 37-9 in the Gator Bowl. The Colts, then playing in Baltimore, drafted McMillan in the first round (12th overall) in 1981.

The Colts, unfortunately, were among the NFL’s worst teams during Randy McMillan’s career. They never made the postseason and suffered double-digit losses four times, plus an 0-8-1 record in the lockout-shortened 1982 season.

McMillan had his best season in 1985, rushing for 858 yards and seven touchdowns.

Randy McMillan Is 10th All-Time In Rushing Among Colts

Per Pro Football Reference, McMillan is 10th on the Colts’ career rushing yards leaderboard with 3,876. His 24 rushing touchdowns place him just outside the top 10, too.

McMillan would have finished higher on both lists if not for a horrific leg injury he suffered during the 1987 offseason. McMillan was struck by a car in Timonium, Maryland, and fractured his leg.

With Randy McMillan sidelined, the Colts completed a blockbuster trade for future Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson. McMillan became a free agent and tried out for the Miami Dolphins in 1988, but he was cut before the start of the season.

Our thoughts and prayers are with McMillan’s family and friends during this difficult time.
