Chinese-American Winter Olympics star Eileen Gu still cannot escape the backlash despite the games being over. This time, a former NFL legend is calling her out.

Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason has become the latest critic of the Milan Cortina Games gold medalist. During the games, she faced backlash for representing China rather than the USA, where she was born and raised.

Esiason questioned Gu for her “insufferable” behavior throughout the Olympics. Her Olympic interviews also rubbed American fans the wrong way throughout the Milan Cortina Games. There was one moment where she fired back at a reporter who asked whether she viewed her 2026 finishes as “two silvers gained or two golds lost.”

“I’m the most decorated female freeskier in history. I think that’s an answer in and of itself,” said Eileen Gu at the time.

WFAN host Boomer Esiason took aim at the Olympic freestyle skier. During his morning show alongside Greg Giannotti, the former NFL MVP spoke about her appearance and behavior.

“She’s a very attractive woman and she’s extremely bright, she went to Stanford. But if you listen to her post-participation interviews, she’s insufferable,” Esiason said.

“It’s hard to listen to. But then again, it’s an individual sport and an individual person talking about herself as opposed to talking about her teammates and the support she receives.”

This isn’t the only time Gu has been the subject of someone’s displeasure. Just last week, she finally responded to remarks from Vice President JD Vance, who said that he hoped someone raised in America would “want to compete with the United States.”

“I’m flattered. Thanks, JD! That’s sweet,” Gu said, via USA TODAY.

At the 2026 Milano Cortina Games, Gu solidified her legacy amid the noise. She successfully defended her Halfpipe gold medal and added two more silver medals in Big Air and Slopestyle.
