Green Bay Packers Linked To Blockbuster Trade For 1,000-Yard NFC Running Back

The Green Bay Packers have not even held their first training camp practice, but one trade idea is already getting some validation.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay believes Green Bay should try to trade for Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard before the 2026 season starts. He thinks Hubbard would be a reliable backup behind Josh Jacobs, especially given the team’s still-concerned running back depth.
Hubbard would be more than just a backup. He has already shown that he can be a starting running back and has rushed for more than 1,000 yards in a season. Adding a player with that kind of experience would give Green Bay extra security as it gets ready for a long NFL season.
Chuba Hubbard Could Give Green Bay Valuable Depth
Kay believes Carolina could give Jonathon Brooks a bigger role this season, which might make Hubbard available in a trade. That is why he sees the Packers as a good fit.
Hubbard had a breakout season in 2024, rushing for 1,195 yards and 10 touchdowns while also adding 43 catches for 171 yards and one touchdown. The Panthers got him with a four-year, $33.2 million contract extension later that year.
According to Bleacher Report, Hubbard could immediately become Josh Jacobs’ top backup and would be a dependable option if Jacobs misses time.
That depth could be important because Jacobs is still involved in an ongoing legal investigation. He was arrested in May after an alleged domestic incident but was released without charges. His lawyers have denied the allegations, and both the investigation and the NFL’s review are still ongoing.
Green Bay already faced questions behind Jacobs before that situation developed.
Emanuel Wilson left for Seattle in free agency, leaving MarShawn Lloyd in line for a larger role. Packers.com reported on July 21 that Green Bay is “counting on Lloyd” after Wilson’s departure. Lloyd, however, missed the entire 2025 regular season with a recurring hamstring injury. He has logged only six regular-season carries in two NFL seasons.
Chris Brooks also remains in the mix, but he carried the ball just 27 times for 106 yards last season.
Jacobs still leads the backfield. Since joining Green Bay in 2024, he has rushed for 2,258 yards and 28 touchdowns on 535 carries. He missed two games last season and finished with 929 rushing yards, about 400 fewer than he posted in his first Packers season.
A trade for Hubbard would give Green Bay another runner with proven production and experience handling a heavy workload.
