Harvard Study Names The NFL’s 10 Most Republican Fan Bases — Some Of These Will Shock You

NFL fans do not always see eye to eye on politics, and a Harvard study has offered an interesting look at where different fan bases stand.

A recent study looked at NFL fan bases to see which ones lean more Democratic or Republican. Overall, it’s a mixed bag across the league, but most fan bases tend to match the politics of where they’re located.

The Tennessee Titans took the number one spot for the most Republican-leaning fans in the NFL. A bunch of other teams from the South and Midwest are near the top of the list, too, with the Kansas City Chiefs landing just outside the top 10.

According to the study, the 10 most Republican-leaning NFL fan bases are the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cincinnati Bengals, Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New Orleans Saints, Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, Minnesota Vikings, and Cleveland Browns.

The Titans take the No. 1 spot. The Jaguars rank second, followed by the Bengals at No. 3. The Dolphins and Buccaneers round out the top five.

The Saints rank sixth, while the Colts come in seventh. The Panthers rank eighth, with the Vikings and Browns completing the top 10.

The Kansas City Chiefs rank No. 11. That makes their fan base one of the more Republican-leaning groups in the league, but it narrowly misses the top 10.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has stayed away from endorsing political candidates. He explained his position during an interview in 2024.

“I think I’ve always said I don’t want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever either way,” Mahomes said.

He said he prefers to encourage people to register to vote and make their own decisions.

“I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote, is to inform people to do their own research and then make their best decision for them and their family,” Mahomes added.

The study also points out how much location matters when it comes to politics in sports. Teams from states with stronger Republican voting patterns appear prominently on the list.

Still, the rankings describe broad fan-base trends. They do not mean every fan of a particular NFL team shares the same political views.

Teams
